Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Dorothea Arabella Primrose, Lady Hervey (d.1825) by Richard Cosway RA (Tiverton, Devon 1742 - London 1821). c.1800. Oval. Half-length portrait of a young woman, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing a low-cut white dress. Brown eyes, dark brown plaited hair, pale pink complexion. Pale sky background. Engraved on back of gold case 'Lady Dorothea Arabella Hervey, daughter of 3rd Earl of Rosebery. Married William Hervey. Died 1825. Richard Cosway RA'.
Provenance
Part of the Bristol Collection. Acquired by the National Trust in 1956 under the auspices of the National Land Fund, later the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Lane sale, Christie's 12.12.1912, lot 105. Bought by Asher Wertheimer (1844 - 1918), 48 gns, for Ickworth.
