Caption
Mary Ward (1827-1869) was eighteen when she had what was probably the finest microscope in Ireland. She taught herself how to make slides and she used the microscope in her published works. A World of Wonders Revealed by the Microscope was published by Groombridge and Sons, 1858-1864 when it was revised and expanded in Microscope Teachings in 1859.
