Summary
The Hussey papers Title deeds, estate papers, family papers, correspondence, official papers, maps and plans. NRA 4540 Hussey These documents have been put under 3 reference numbers at the Centre for Kentish Studies: U1776 U409 U1006 U1776: Additional Hussey Manuscripts, 1597-1959 This collection of documents of the Hussey family of Scotney Castle, Lamberhurst, consisting in the main of nineteenth and early twentieth century estate and family papers and correspondence, supplements the two other collections of Hussey MSS in the Archives Office, U409 and U1006. U409: Deeds and accounts of the Scotney estates in Kent and Sussex. 1361-1913 The documents in this collection fall into two main groups, deeds and accounts. The accounts are described in a separate introductory note at the beginning of that section. The deeds are almost all in their original bundles and bear labels, probably of early 19th century date. They relate to the estates acquired by purchase or inheritance by the Hussey family, but the deeds of the main Scotney estate itself (as also the manorial documents) are almost non-existent. The Goudhurst and Lamberhurst properties have been catalogued first, followed by the other properties, roughly in alphabetical order of parishes, by counties. U1006: Records of Scotney Castle estate, 1407 - 1949 This collection consists substantially of title deeds and other estate documents of the Hussey family estate, centred on Scotney Castle, Lamberhurst, for the perios c. 1750 - 1870. Edward Hussey acquired Scotney manor from John Richards in 1779, and the collection includes title deeds of Scotney, along with other properties (including Goudhurst). Deposited at the Kent History Centre on 17th April 1963.
