Summary
A lacquered and gilt gesso firescreen, English, circa 1900, framing an Indian embroidered panel, worked in silk and metallic threads on linen or cotton with Krishna and other deities in vignettes, some titled. The screen with moulded edge and topped by a brass handle, lined with glass and on 'C'-scroll metal feet.
Provenance
Listed in the Dining Room in the inventory taken at Bateman's in 1939. Bequeathed by Caroline Starr Balestier, Mrs Rudyard Kipling (1862-1939) with Bateman’s and its contents.
