Summary
Watercolour, some bodycolour, on two joined sheets of paper laid on canvas, The Ponte Lucano and the Tomb of the Plautii near Tivoli by Abraham Louis Ducros (Yverdon, Switzerland 1748 – Lausanne 1810). The tomb of the Plautii, or as it is called by Colt Hoare, the tomb of Munatius Plaucus, a round structure resembling that of Cecilia Metella, stands by by the Ponte Lucano where the road from Rome to Tivoli crosses the river Anio. Inscribed (on reverse of canvas backing): 'Le Sepulcre de Plautius pour monsieur Hoare de chez Du Cros'.
