Summary
Oil painting on panel, Autumn, attributed to English School, circa 1665. A monochrome painted sculptured bust of an armless female figure with a veil on her head. A basket of fruit sits on top of the outer part of the sculptural niche, also surrounded by flowers and leaves. Below the plinth is a hound's head, possibly referring to hunting. The word 'Bill' is graffittied across her bosom.
Provenance
Not recorded in 18th and 19th century inventories; discovered in Dunster Castle summerhouse,1976.
