Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Hilly River Landscape with a Horesman talking to a Shepherdess (after Cuyp), style of Aelbert Cuyp (Dordrecht 1620 – Dordrecht 1691),18th century. A mountainous wooded landscape of the lower Rhine to the right with cattle, sheep and dogs and a man on a horse and a woman in the foreground, further figures and buildings in the middle distance. The original painting, a mature work of 1655-60, is in the National Gallery, London and was part of the Angerstein collection when it first opened in 1824.
