Caption
Lawrence first enlisted in the RAF under the name ‘J. H. Ross’ but was soon exposed as Lawrence of Arabia. He re-enlisted a couple of months later and arrived at Bovington Camp on 12 March 1923, as 7875698 Pte T. E. Shaw.
Summary
One of a pair of stainlesss steel 3-branch candlesticks made by RAF friends and given to Lawrence as a farewell present.
Provenance
Beauforte-Greenwood wrote 'a few days before he left he agreed to accept a personal memento of our association, and chose stainless steel candlesticks. My colleague, Flight-Lieutenant H. Norrington, and I presented him with a pair of these'. They were given to Lawrence during a lunch at Hythe on 24 April 1935.
