Summary
19th century chromolithograph of an original oil painting of circa 1820. Half length portrait of Mary Stokes, Mrs Samuel Fletcher (d.1821), turned slightly to the left. The sitter is wearing a plum coloured high waisted dress, grey mantle and white muslin collar and bonnet. Plain brown background. Glazed in an ebonised rectangular frame with inner gilt border. Mary Stokes married Samuel Fletcher on April 5th 1813 - died Feb.10th 1821, and had five children Thomas, Jane, Harriet and Sarah. Sarah Stokes Fletcher married Campbell Basset Arthur Grey Hulton. There were thirteen children, among them William Stokes Hulton, the artist and father of Edith Teresa Hulton, who became the wife of the 8th Lord Berwick. The original painting was in the possession of S.F.Hulton until 1930.

Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
