Summary
A woman's slipper from a pair of slippers, made from cream silk satin. The heelless slipper is trimmed with a small bow on the vamp and Is otherwise undecorated, with a leather sole and lined with white kid leather and muslin. An early example of a mail order product, a maker's label attached to the slipper insole reads, "Shoes Sent To Pattern By Post. By Appointment to Her Majesty. Pattinson. No 74 Oxford Street, London". Also handwritten on the inner lining of the slipper, "M. Babington", Martha, who ordered and made the slippers at home. She was married to the Rev. Redmond Conyngham McCausland, vicar of Desertoghill, Co Tyrone.
