Summary
Oil painting on board, Anna Maria Staples, Mrs Ralph Smyth, Mother of Anne Smyth, Mrs Walter MacGeough Bond by British (English) School, mid 19th century. A three-quarter-length portrait of an eldferly woman, seated, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing a grey dress with long sleeves, a brown cloak, lace bonnet with hanging bands, grey background. Pencil note on back states 'Hannah Smyth, mother of Anne, wife of Walter McGeough Bond'. Anna Maria Staples was the daughter of Sir Robert Staples, 7th Bt and Mary Barker. She married Ralph Smyth in 1799 and their children were Anne Smyth, Mrs Walter MacGeough Bond (1804-1892), Ralph Smyth (1800-1827) and Robert Smyth (1801-1878).
