Summary
Lead sculpture, Vestal Virgin by John Cheere (1709 – London 1787). Lead statue of Vestal Virgin, after the antique, supplied by John Cheere. Copied from antique formerly at Versailles, now in the Louvre. Engraving published in reverse by Simon Thomassin (1694), pl.9. Present version presumably supplied by Cheere, 1760s, for the Temple of Apollo. Removed to West Garden 1903-4. Another lead Cheere version at Southill, Bedfordhsire.
