Summary
One of a set of four walnut and upholstered high back open armchairs, the chair frames probably Dutch, late 19th century, late 17th century style, upholstered in French 17th century tapestry fragments The rectangular back and seat padded and upholstered in tapestry fragments incorporating panels of flowers and fruit. The shaped arms with scrolled terminals and carved with leaf decoration, the legs turned and tapered and joined by a moulded shaped X stretcher centered by a finial.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
