Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Alexander Pringle (1747-1827) (after Richard Cosway) by George Engleheart (Kew 1750 – Blackheath 1839). Oval. c.1795. Head and shoulder portrait of a young man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, in a grey-blue coat, white shirt-frill. Grey eyes, grey powdered wig, pale (faded) complexion. Pale blue background. Companion to BHH/PM/011.
Provenance
Painted circa 1795. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
