Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Arthur Vansittart (1691-1760) by Michael Dahl (1656/9-1743), 1718. A full-length portrait of a young man, standing facing, head turned slightly to left, gazing at the spectator, with white powdered wig, a ponytail falling over his left shoulder, and wearing a mauve/pink collarless frock coat lined with cream and with deep turned back cuffs, knee-length waistcoat/vest of floral design, the hem and lower front edge with gold tasseled fringing, white shirt and neckcloth, dusky pink breeches and stockings, black square-toed shoes with heels and buckles, and a sword at his waist. He stands resting his left arm on a buttoned chair on which a black tricorne hat and white gloves with long gold fringing are placed. An architectural interior with an empty niche on the right and a pillar on the left.
