Summary
Oil painting on panel, Frances Coke, Viscountess Purbeck (1601-1645) by Michel Miereveldt (1567-1641), dated "Ao.1623". Inscribed (on reverse) "Fran...Coocke Vicotese de Porbec". A half-length portrait to left, a veil attached to her hair with a ring of pearls, wearing a surcoat of green with silver embroidery over white, a decorated gold chain falling from her shoulders, pearl necklace and earrings.
Provenance
King Frederick of Bohemia, 1633, no. 63;Acquired at the auction of the Craven Collection at Sotheby's in 1968. Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust for display at Ashdown House, 1968.
