Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lord John Singleton Copley the Younger, Baron Lyndhurst (1772-1863), PC, FRS, by Alfred d'Orsay (Paris 1801 – Paris 1852), assisted by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (London 1802 - London 1873), circa 1862. A half-length portrait, aged 80, standing in House of Lords. Right profile, right hand pointing, left hand resting on front of bench. In black morning dress. The Tory Lord Chancellor was one of Disraeli's first influential friends, and his staunch advocate. D'Orsay's portrait was originally in the possession of Gladstone. At a sale of the latter's pictures in 1875 it was purchased by a group of MPs and presented to Disraeli.

Originally owned by Gladstone. Bought at sale of Gladstone's pictures in 1875 and presented to Disraeli by a group of MPs; given to the National Trust with Hughenden Manor by the Disraelian Society, 1947
