Summary
Part of a cream silk nightgown. The neckline has seven pin tucks, hand-stitched running for 190 cms down both the front and back. A small cap sleeve with turn back hand-stitched hem. Hand-stitched French seams joining the front and the back. The hem is self-binding machined at the bottom but hand-stitched to the garment. The silk is disintegrating with evidence of repairs and darns and some iron mould. The front is intact but split down the middle and the tuck is missing from the waist downwards. Under the arm are three small darts both back and front.
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
