Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of Daniel O'Connell, standing, bare-headed his right hand on his hip, his left left on a draped pedestal, a low-crowned hat on a draped pedestal beside his right leg. (1775-1847) Irish patriot. Chief agitator for Catholic Emancipation and Home Rule. Convicted of sedition 1844, acquitted on appeal.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
