[i.e. Sir William Arthur Hamar Bass, 2nd baronet (1879-1952), descendant of the founder of the Bass brewery]. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991) Forms part of a set with other Ainsworth novels, one volume of which is inscribed by Norris: Sexton, 110 Worth St., and in another hand: Đ18-10-0. Other volumes have bookplate of William Henry Abbey (1864-1943) instead of Bass's, but bindings are uniform.. Binding: Late nineteenth-century half calf binding; marbled boards; gilt-tooled spines; brown and black leather spine labels; with additional title "Ainsworth's Novels"; sewn on five raised bands; marbled paper edges. Binder's stamp: Bickers & son.
