Binding: Germany, sixteenth-century alum-tawed pigskin over pasteboards; sewn on three double sewing supports; covers blind-tooled with framework of thin thick thin fillets to a panel design; on front cover, the outer frame with pictorial roll featuring classical goddesses (Juno, Pallas, Venus), the middle frame with repeated cinquefoil tool (three on each side, one at top and bottom), owner's[?] initials 'VW' stamped in black at top, date '1530' stamped in black at bottom, and the central panel with two rows of repeated floral tool; on rear cover the same, but the outer frame instead with heads-in-medallions roll and the middle frame without initials and date; blind-tooled spine, with red goatskin title label 'CATULLUS ALD 1515' in gilt; three raised bands; front and rear pastedowns lifted to reveal underneath printed waste taken from Martin Luther's 'Auslegu[n]g der Episteln vnd Euangelien vom Aduent an bis auff Ostern' (Wittenberg, 1528) (VD16 L3953) and vellum manuscript waste.
