Provenance: Bookplate in both vols: Chirk Castle R. E. Myddelton [i.e. Robert Edward Myddelton (1866-1949)]; crest, signed and dated: W.P.B. 1914.. Binding: Sixteenth-century blind- and gold-tooled bindings over wooden boards. Elaborately panelled in blind and lettered in gilt. Blind-tooling includes decorative, foliate (with birds), and pictorial rolls, plus acorn and fleur-de-lys stamps. Bevelled edges. Both vols. have pair of brass catches on upper board and one clasp on lower board (other missing); board edges have metal plates at each corner (some missing). Vol. 2 repaired at top corner around spine. Blind fillets and gilt title labels on spines (cracked). Manuscript waste on vellum along spines.
