Provenance
Painted for Sir John Swinburne, 6th Bt (1762 - 1860), 1812, exhibited at RA in 1815; purchased by Louis William Flatou for William Gibbs, at Swinburne's posthumous sale, 15th June 1861 (£1,265) also on the advice of his other dealer, Henry Eckford and William Boxall and hung in his London home at Hyde Park Gardens until moved to Tynresfield in 1890; purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
