Summary
A mahogany bureau bookcase, English, last quarter of the 18th century. Having a moulded cornice above a pair of astragal-glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves. The bureau with hinged fall enclosing pigeonholes and drawers around a small cupboard door. The fall supported on lopers. All above four graduated and cockbeaded long drawers fitted with brass handles and backplates. On outswept feet and with shaped aprons.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Major T. C. E. Goff in 1943 and retained for the use of his daughter until 1990. Transferred to Avebury Manor circa 1995 - 6 following its acquisition by the National Trust in 1991.
