Summary
A walnut and iron vargueño, Spain, probably Salamanca, circa 1650, raised on a later walnut and inlaid stand, (NT29482), English, probably 19th century. Fall front enclosing small drawers and two side cupboards. Inlaid in various woods and ivory with star medallions within chequer-pattern borders, mounted with wrought-iron escutcheons, plaques and scallop shells, the emblem of St James, patron saint of Spain. Iron handle on each end. Later walnut and inlaid stand (NT294820 with spirally-turned legs and two pull-out rests for fall front, with brass ring handles.
