Summary
Painting. An oil painting on canvas, a full- length equestrian portrait of Godfrey Charles Morgan, 2nd Baron, Viscount Tredegar (1831-1913), dressed in hunting pink, mounted on his horse, facing to the left with his Huntsman, Mr Charles Barrett, behind him, to the right, in front of Tredegar by John Charlton (Bamburgh 1849 - London 1917), 1884. In the background, to the left, are the Edney Gates and the north-west facade of Tredegar House. Within a gilded frame with laurel leaf mouldings, bead and rail mouldings and corner cross banding.
Provenance
Part of the collection on loan to the National Trust from Newport Museum and Galleries. In March 2012 the National Trust took over the management of Tredegar House with its contents and its 90 acres of gardens and parkland, from Newport City Council for a period of 50 years.
