Summary
Challenge folding field camera by Lizars of Belfast. Quarter plate size. Mahogany body with brass fittings and brown leather handle on top. Black leather bellows. Brilliant view finder. Ground glass screen for focusing hinges upwards on back of camera. Beck symmetrical lens in pneumatic shutter and Thornton Pickard focal plane shutter. Markings: Manufacturers label screwed to side of camera: "J. Lizars 'Challenge'" and over this an additional plate: "Lizars, Belfast". On focal plane shutter: "Focal Plane Patent Thornton-Pickard".
