Summary

An Albumen print depicting a view of Drake Island, Plymouth. The view is from a hillside with Mt Edgecumbe ruins in the foreground, across the Sound to Drake Island. The print is surrounded by a grey border that is printed onto the card mount, which is subject to slight foxing. Handwritten in pencil, recto bottom left is "793 Plymouth Drake Island". A printed paper label is attached to the verso bottom right, "Frith's Photo-Pictures the Universal Series".

Provenance

Part of the Fenton Collection. A gift from British Film Institute in 2017. From 1986-1999, part of BFI collection for the Museum of the Moving Image. BFI purchased collection in 1986 from James Fenton's Museum of Photography, Port Erin, Isle of Man 1976-1986
