Summary
Jacket; Caraco - Polished cotton printed with design of narrow stripes and small flowers and leaves on speckled background. Red, yellow, green, blue on white. Front skirt cotton with printed design in red on white. Lined with cotton with woven check blue/red/brown/ white, possibly Madras and also pieces of brown/yellow/white woven check. Lower sleeves lined with same striped red/white printed cotton as front skirt. Deep 'v' neckline back and front. Fitted bodice cut in one with skirt and top of sleeves. Long, tight fitting sleeves, with 2 seams to curve the elbow. Long slit opening at cuff. Skirt flared with double box pleats at side seams, and triple at centre back seam. Roughly made. 7 hooks and eyes on centre-front bodice. 4 hooks and buttonholed bars in sets of 3 and 2 on sleeve opening. Altered. Patch of red roller-printed cotton on each side of skirt front. Same fabric as the lining of lower sleeves and possibly added at a later date, when original was worn out. Pleats taken under bust - later removed. See letter in file.
