Summary
Rectangular sewing box with brass hinged lid and marquetry panels on the top and three sides depicting maritime scenes and ships, possibly Italian. Interior of lid lined with red velvet and box lined with red patterned paper. Inner tray lifts out and contains five lidded compartments. Compartments have separate lids with ivory handles (one missing) and inlaid decoration of star and diamond motifs. Largest lidded compartment has inlaid flags, the British Red Ensign to the right, and an Italian flag on the left. Tray also has five open compartments and pin cushion in red velvet. Key hole in front.Previously contained a quantity of jewellery and other objects.
