Summary
A long, or ‘triple’, walnut stool or banquette, England c.1680, on four pairs of scrolled legs joined by turned stretchers. The front and back are adorned with three elaborate aprons, carved with scrolls and foliage, each centring in a flower. The stools are stuffed and upholstered in red stamped velvet, probably dating from the early 19th century, with a tassel fringe of the same date.
Provenance
Knole and the majority of its furniture were accepted by HM Treasury in part payment of death duties and transferred to the National Trust in 1946.
