Summary
Oil painting on panel, An Unknown Old Man in a Black Skull-cap holding a Book (later called Mr Altham, Common Councilman), English School, circa 1635-45. A half-length portrait of an elderly man, turned slightly to right, facing spectator, white beard and moustache, wearing a skull-cap edged with lace, a white linen square collar, also edged with lace, and a gown edged with fur; holding a closed book into which his index finger is inserted. Pair with KLA/P/173.
