Summary
A walnut veneered lace box on later stand, British, early 18th century, the stand 19th century, the box with rectangular hinged lid inlaid with a herringbone oval and rectangle and with a crossbanded rim, with plain sides and moulded plinth base, the front with a pierced brass lockplate, the later walnut stand with four cabriole legs and terminating in pad feet, The underside with scrawled black crayon reading '26/215'. The underside also applied with a rectangular label, the writing indecipherable.
Provenance
On loan to the National Trust from Lady Mairi Bury (1921-2009) 1976, then accepted by HM Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the National Trust, 2013.
