Caption
Sybil, Dowager Lady Bedingfeld was one of the women who saved Oxburgh from demolition. In 1951, the house was sold at auction and was due to be torn down. Sybil was pivotal in buying back the house and giving it to the National Trust in 1952.

Signed and dated December 1974. Inscribed top left 'AET SUAE 91'. This portrait, drawn in conte, was commissioned by the National Trust to coincide with the subject's television appearance in the film of Oxburgh Hall which featured in the series entitled 'A Place in the Country'. Lady Bedingfeld is seen in this head and shoulders portrait with her head slightly inclined to her right as she looks in the same direction. Plain narrow gilt frame, grey mount, and glazed. Inscribed on mount 'Sybil, Lady Bedingfeld. Drawn for the National Trust by David Hankinson December 1974'.
