Summary
One of a pair of turned sandalwood dice cups with ivory trim. Part of the gaming set housed in the reversible chess/backgammon board. The dice cups can be found in one of the three ensuite ivory and sandalwood boxes. E.India (Vizagapatam), c.1800. See catalogue 'Treasures from India' pg.83.
Provenance
Recorded in 1944 Inventory as ‘An 18in inlaid ivory and sandalwood backgammon board containing 2 ivory and sandalwood boxes chess and draughtsmen and 2 ivory and sandalwood dice throwers' in Tapestry Drawing Room (Blue Drawing Room). Purchased by the National Trust from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and the Powis Estate Trustees in June 2010.
