Summary
Model - Carved solid ivory miniature palanquin (bed), incised and filled with black lacquer; and with silver mounts. Damaged, but retaining original base of interlaced webbing, ring fittings and rope network for attaching to carrying pole. Traces of silver thread on the netting. E.India (Vizagapatam), 18th century.
Provenance
Collected by Robert Clive (1725-1774) Listed in the 1774 inventory as 'A Curious Ivory palankeen Embroidered w-h Silver'. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
