Summary
A scabbard for a Sinhalese dagger with a rock crystal hilt. The scabbard of fluted silver with scrolled locket and silver filligree chape. Sri-Lanka, 18th century. See 'Treasures from India' catalogue pg.45.
Provenance
Collected by Robert Clive. Listed in 1774 inventory as 'a curious Knife w-h Chrystal handle and Silver mounted D-o Sheath'. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
