Oil painting on canvas, Matthew Hutton of Newnham, Herts. (d.1728) by John Verelst (fl 1698 - London 1734),1715. A three-quarter length portrait of the father of Dorothy Hutton who married Philip Yorke I, facing, wearing a full-bottomed wig, brown coat with yellow lining, embroidered waistcoat; his left hand on his hip, his right in his waistcoat.

In inventory of the house of the late James Hutton, son of the collector and sitter, Matthew Hutton (d. 1728) in Park Lane, 27-28 July 1770, as; 'A Gentleman, by Verelst, Mr Hutton'; in undated 19th century Erddig inventory (circa 1820 at time of cleaning) as: 'Mr Hutton -Verelst and thence by descent; given by Philip Yorke III (1905 – 1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973
