Summary
Tureen cover. Part of one of a pair of Chelsea porcelain sauce tureeens, covers and stands, modelled as plaice, the raised tails forming handles, and painted with scale markings in purple, brown and iron red, the open mouths for ladles (no longer extant), the backs (lids) with seaweed handles; the stands moulded and shells etc. Red anchor period, c.1755-8.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
