Caption
John Spencer Churchill was the nephew of Sir Winston Churchill. He resided briefly with his family at Chartwell in the 1930s before relocating to Spain. This painting of the Houses of Parliament, produced in 1961, sees the building bathed in an ethereal light; Churchill was clearly influenced by Whistler’s and Monet’s impressions of the same view in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
