Summary
A sandalwood casket from Mysore. It contains openwork carving of females, birds and mythical creatures amongst a swirling floral design. There is a plaque in brass. The interior is made of turquoise velvet and has a velvet tray that lifts out. 'A carved sandalwood casket containing a gold key' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
