Summary
A sandalwood shelf with carved back. The back depicts Narasimha (?), man lion and the fourth Avatar of Vishnu. He is accompanied by his consort and two female attendants. The shrine arch depicts two makaras (mythical crocodiles) at either side and a lion head (Kirttimukha), at the top. Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
