Summary
One of a pair of sandalwood fly-whisks (chauri) from Mysore, India. It has a carved handle with the base bound in green and gold thread, finishing in a fringe of silver. 'Two Indian sandalwood fly-whisks decorated with bands of silk and gold thread and with silver fringes' (Christie's entry)
Provenance
Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
