Summary description

Oil painting on canvas, RYS 'Zoe', British (English) School, mid 19th century. The RYS (Royal Yacht Squadron) Zoe was the smaller schooner belonging to Sir Bruce Chichester, 2nd Bt (1842–1881) that preceded the Erminia which he bought in 1869. The yacht is seen in profile sailing out towards the right across a stormy sea. The burgee of the RYS with the St George's cross can be seen on the top of the left-hand mast. The yacht is sailing towards another ship in the distance to the right which appears to be on fire.
