A pair of mahogany and inlaid fold-over card tables, English, circa 1760. Both tables with a top crossbanded and inlaid with a Greek key-type design. The hinged upper leaf folding open to reveal a baize-lined interior within a border veneered with holly and yew. The rear legs and hinged friezes opening in a concertina-action to support the top when open. A sliding oak 'tray' beneath the top. Raised on four cabriole legs carved with acanthus to the knee and with four talon and ball-carved feet. -- The iron hinges to the frieze stamped with the initials 'RF' within a shield. The crude nature of the inlay to the crossbanded edges of the tops suggest that this could be a later embellishment.
At Saltram by 1951 and accepted by HM Treasury in lieu of full payment of death duty from the Executors of Edmund Robert Parker (1878 - 1951), 4th Earl Morley.
