William and Florence Straw had three sons, William Jnr, Walter Winks and David. David died in infancy, William Jnr. went on to teach and live in London and it was Walter who followed father into the family business. Walter like his father before him took the exams to become a member of the Institute of Certified Grocer's. He later went on to become president of the Worksop and District branch in 1953, 1954 and 1962 the year he retired. The Institute aimed to create a base skill level and Walter went on to teach grocers skills at the local college.

Each is painted black and has been decorated with two bands that circle the measure, and a label shaped panel on the front with stylized symbols, painted in red and gold. On the back of the scoop is a small tubular section of metal, attached near the top rim, and a circular badge beneath it, covered with illegible writing.
