Summary
One of two silver-gilt three-light candelabra branches to a set of six candlesticks, decorated with rosettes and scrolling foliage, circular nozzles. Gadroon border, anthemion, basket pattern decoration. Central spike finial chased with vines. Inscribed with the maker's mark for Paul Storr, London, 1808 and 1810, and inscribed around the base of the candlesticks with RUNDELL BRIDGE ET RUNDELL AURIFICES REGIS ET PRINCIPIS WALLIE LONDINI FECERUNT. In 1807 Paul Storr entered into a partnership agreement with the Royal Goldsmiths, Rundell, Bridge and Rundell, and opened a workshop for them in Dean Street, Soho which he ran until 1819, mainly overseeing the work of other craftsmen.
Provenance
Presumed to be part of William Noel-Hill’s Ambassadorial service. William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773-1842) who had been in Italy as British Envoy and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Naples and the Two Sicilies. By descent bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
