Woman’s dress. Black multi-layered evening dress. Black silk satin underskirt edged at hem with silk net. Elaborate overskirt comprising of four panels of black silk chiffon and black silk tulle, edged with wide bands of black silk machine-embroidered net. The silk tulle centres of each panel are heavily decorated with black gelatine sequins and an assortment of black jet beadwork. Two gathered panels of black silk tulle hang loose down the back of the skirt. Skirt fastens CB with seven metal hooks and stitched eyes. Bodice of cream plain weave silk is overlaid with cream silk chiffon and two layers of black silk tulle. Pleated band of cream silk tulle at CB opening with four metal hooks (appears to create a decorative infill across the back of the bodice). The outer tulle layer is heavily trimmed with black gelatine sequins and small jet beads. The sleeves are trimmed with swags of black silk tulle. The bodice fastens with two metal hooks and stitched eyes and it has an internal cream cotton and silk grosgrain waistband, fastening CB with two metal hooks and eyes. The skirt has an internal waistband of black silk and cotton grosgrain fastening with two metal hooks and eyes. Two silk underarm protectors with an unknown inner protective layer.
