Large mid-brown leather hatbox, oval in plan, tapering to the base, which is flat. The leather lid is raised at each end of the oval, giving a boat-shaped appearance and is fastened to the box by a leather strap, fixed at one side, with a lock (brass plated) at the other. It has a leather carrying strap, fixed by brass plated studs, and bears an unmarked brass-plated plaque. The initials 'L.B.G.' (Lewis Borthwick Greig) are written on the side and the top has luggage tickets for routes of various Scottish railway companies from before the 1923 reorganisation. The interior is lined by pink cloth (probably once red or burgundy), the inside of the lid is grey velvet (probably once blue) and has two leather and elastic securing straps. Made by the Army and Navy Co-op Society Ltd of 105 Victoria Street, Westminster SW and has their label on the lid.
