Summary
A satinwood polychrome-decorated chair, one of a pair, English, circa 1810-1820, the top rail painted with a shallow urn flanked by garlands, above an oval cane panel, centred by a wooden panel painted with grisaille arabesque, the exterior oval wooden frame painted with husks, the oval panel above a lower pair of rails joined by open trellis-work, the uprights painted with leaf and berry garlands, the caned chair seat with front rails painted with grisaille arabesque, the turned and curved front legs painted with paterae and husk garlands tied with blue ribbons, the rear legs, chair back and side rails with painted black borders, the squab cushion upholstered in white chintz with floral sprays.
